Humbling to watch 53kg women lift more than you can

I believe I have watched the replays for all of the 2012 Olympic Weightlifting in London now.   I have been an addict this past week, last night I caught the 53kg women final and was blown away yet again.  The gold medalist, 19 yr old Zulfiya Chinshanlo of Kazakhstan put up 131kg in the clean and jerk (world record).  That is 288.8lbs from a girl who weighs less than 120lbs!  Great, great stuff.

Anyway,  I have let the record keeping slip this week, my apologies.  Got in a real short workout last night, in and out of gym in 30 min (warm-up included).  Performed as a circuit with minimal rest.

  • 32kg KB Single Jerk 3 x 1 min sets (6/6, 6/6, 7/7)
  • 32kg KB Clean and Squat 3 x 3/arm
  • 32kg KB Power Snatch Split 3 x 3/arm
  • Dead hang pull-up 3 x 3

I have just started dipping my toe in the Olympic Weightlifting pool, and one American name that keeps coming up for sheer strength, form, and bad assery is Donny Shankle.  The guy is a beast and has a voice as epic as The Man in Black.   The Shankle has an excellent blog that centers around weightlifting and includes his daily scripture reading.  Check it out!

Here is a great video that I ran across with Donny speaking briefly about doing what he does.  As long as you dont mind a bit of profanity (mild), its well worth your time.
